My dad was a great golfer. And an even better man. He taught me how to be both in the 19 years I knew him and I am grateful for every day I had with him and every lesson he brought home, both about life and about golf.

He was a loving father, a faithful husband, a devoted son, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. He was also a fierce fighter, he gave everything he had to every round of golf he played and even more to the one fight none of us can win.

As much as he taught me about honesty, hard work, dedication, generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness, I think the most valuable lesson I learned from my father was not about how to live, but about how to die. He fought a brave battle never complaining or asking why me, but moved forward every day in love for his family and faith in Christ. He showed me and my siblings how to die with dignity, grace, gratitude, meekness, and humility.

In death as in life, my father taught me how to live as God created us to live, and every day since I have strived to live up to the example he set.
